Schilling endorses Trump in long blog post

Curt Schilling, the embattled former pitcher who was fired by ESPN last month amid controversial remarks, is throwing his support behind outspoken Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

In a post published Friday on his personal blog, Schilling, who is no stranger to expressing his political opinions, offered three main reasons why he will vote for Trump in the presidential election this November. Among them, fittingly, is Trump's penchant for calling it how it is:

I trust him. I don’t agree with him on many things, that’s cool. I also know that there is and never will be a candidate anywhere that I will agree with on everything. That candidate doesn’t exist. If you say it does I think that makes you a sheep, someone afraid to have or voice an original, albeit unpopular, opinion at times.

In March, Schilling slammed Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, who he said "should be buried under a jail" over alleged misconduct with respect to her classified email scandal. It was also revealed earlier this year that Schilling donated to the campaign of former Republican candidate Ben Carson, who has since dropped out of the race to endorse Trump.

Schilling was fired by ESPN in April after he shared an offensive anti-transgender graphic on his Facebook page, and posted discriminatory comments. The move followed a controversial year for the former Red Sox pitcher, who was also suspended for a racist tweet comparing Muslims to Nazis.
