Tottenham's Harry Kane has become the first Englishman to lead the Premier League in scoring since 1999-2000, as the Spurs striker narrowly beat out Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Leicester City darling Jamie Vardy.

Heading into Sunday's finale, the goal-scoring chart looked like this:

Player Goals Games Rate
Harry Kane 25 37 0.67
Jamie Vardy 24 35 0.68
Sergio Aguero 24 29 0.83

And here's how the scoring table finishes, with none of the trio of strikers able to score on Sunday:

Player Goals Games Rate
Harry Kane 25 38 0.65
Jamie Vardy 24 36 0.67
Sergio Aguero 24 30 0.8

Kane becomes the first English player to lead the Premier League in scoring since Kevin Phillips did so for Sunderland in 1999-2000. The lower-league-cum-top-flight standout scored 30 that season for the Black Cats, becoming the first and last Premier League player to lead Europe's top leagues in scoring.

Kane also becomes the first Spurs player to lead the Premier League in scoring since Teddy Sheringham did so in the top flight's inaugural campaign in 1992-93.
