Michigan State's Damon Knox leaves program

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State's Damon Knox won't wait to see if the NCAA will grant him a sixth year of eligibility.

Knox, the likely starter at defensive tackle, has decided to pursue a career in law enforcement instead, according to Chris Solari from the Lansing State Journal.

Plagued by injuries throughout his career, Knox started only three games the last three years.

Head coach Mark Dantonio confirmed the news in a statement Friday.

“Damon has been a major contributor to our success the past five years,” Dantonio said. “We appreciate his time and commitment to the Michigan State football program and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The Spartans have lost six defensive line players from the 2015 campaign.
