Dwight Freeney wants to return to Cardinals, willing to play 'anywhere'

Free-agent pass-rusher Dwight Freeney wants to continue his career and his keeping all his options open.

The 36-year-old spent most of 2015 with the Arizona Cardinals, making eight sacks in 11 games. In doing so, he proved he can still be a force despite his age.

So it's a little puzzling that Freeney remains unsigned this late in the offseason.

In an interview on ESPN's "SportsCenter" Thursday, via the Cardinals' official website, Freeney said he's willing to play for any team as long as it wins games, adding, "Arizona would be a great team.

"But if it doesn't work out here, it could be anywhere," said Freeney. "It just depends. It has to be a winning team. I'm used to winning."

Freeney revealed he has generated some interest on the open market, but indicated no signing is imminent.

Though some have speculated Freeney might prefer to wait and sign late in the offseason, missing the rigors of training camp like he did last summer, he said that's not the case.

"I know my body loved (signing in October), but the anxiety mentally wasn’t good," Freeney said. "So hopefully I can get signed before then."
