Baker: Harper might need to be spanked sometimes

Dusty Baker likes a little fire in his superstar.

The Washington Nationals' manager said Tuesday that while Bryce Harper does deserve a fine for his foul-mouthed outburst toward an umpire after Monday's walk-off win, the skipper still appreciates that the outfielder showed some serious passion.

"There are enough emotionless people in the world," Baker told James Wagner of the Washington Post.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported early Tuesday that Harper could be facing a possible suspension for his actions, but Baker joked some internal punishment could do just as well to sort out the outfielder.

"Will I have to spank him sometimes?" Baker said, according to Wagner. "Maybe."

Baker admitted that Harper should receive "a fine or something," because "probably what he did and said was wrong."

Under MLB rules, players who are ejected from a game are required to leave the dugout, and not permitted to re-enter the field.

"Who's not going to come out on the field to celebrate a game-winning home run?" Baker said. "I mean, what do you think we are - like, robots that don't have feelings?"
