Report: Chargers expected to start Slauson at center

Veteran offensive lineman Matt Slauson is expected to step into the starting center role upon joining the San Diego Chargers this season, reports Adam Caplan of ESPN.

Slauson, who officially agreed to terms on a two-year free-agent deal Monday, has spent the vast majority of his seven-year NFL career as a guard.

Injuries forced him to kick inside to center for four games with the Chicago Bears last year, though, and the Chargers were evidently pleased with what they saw over that stretch.

Slauson successfully transitioning to that role on a full-time basis would round out what should be a strong front five, if healthy.

Position Starter
LT King Dunlap
LG Orlando Franklin
C Matt Slauson
RG DJ Fluker
RT Joe Barksdale

Injuries, of course, will continue to be the main factor when it comes to this group's chances of making good on its potential.

Dunlap, Franklin, and Fluker all missed substantial time throughout the 2015 season, often leaving the Chargers to piece together an offensive line in front of star quarterback Philip Rivers.
