In quotes: Leicester capture emotion of Premier League title coronation

Reuters

The unbelievable happened Saturday at King Power Stadium, where Leicester City's staff and players officially became Premier League champions. Five days after clinching the title, the dream season seemed no more real.

There was Peter Schmeichel, the great Manchester United goalkeeper, taking pictures of his son Kasper; there was captain Wes Morgan lifting the trophy, streamers falling, fireworks exploding behind him and his teammates; and there was Claudio Ranieri, the affable Italian who went 30 years without winning a top-flight championship. The most unlikely of triumphs was complete.

In the end, Everton proved simple fodder on a night of celebration, shipping three goals and doing little to stand in the way of a party in the East Midlands.

Here's what the some of Leicester's protagonists told Sky Sports in the aftermath of the greatest moment in English football history.

Kasper Schmeichel

I can't quite believe we're standing here. It's absolutely amazing as you can see. It's a beautiful trophy. It was a tough game today knowing we would be presented the trophy, but I thought we played fantastic. It was a testament to our character.

This is what dreams are made of. This is what you dream of as a kid. It's hard to put into words.

You can see everywhere we go we have had a fantastic response. We have received a brilliant reception everywhere and had standing ovations at numerous Premier League grounds, which is amazing.

Wes Morgan

It's the best time of my life, you can't put it into words. You just want to enjoy every minute.

We have always believed, it's the people around us that were not convinced. We knew on our day we were as good, if not better than, the other teams. It was about ignoring everything around us and doing our job.

There's a togetherness. Such a tight bunch of guys, we do everything together and there are no egos.

Claudio Ranieri

I think it was an amazing moment for me because I'm not the youngest. For me, I won some cups in Spain and Italy, but to lift the championship here is fantastic. I always thought sooner or later in my career I will win a title. At the beginning, never could I think this here is the place. Then slowly I said, 'Why not?' This is a crazy season and we had fantastic consistency all season.

This is a very good dressing room. All friends. They work very hard in the training sessions. And of course I try to blend Italian mentality and tactics to be solid and strong. At the beginning, it wasn't so well. And then I said, 'OK, I'll pay for pizza.' Come on, man. I want a clean sheet. And after that, it was fantastic.

At the start of the season, the owner said it's very important to stay in the Premier League for the next two seasons and then to try and slowly grow and try to go to the Champions League. Now we are champions. We know this is a strange year, so we have to put it aside and focus on the next season. The foundations are strong. Now it's important to climb slowly.

It will be a very different season, but the people are dreaming. Keep dreaming.
