Rod Woodson: Karl Joseph 'more instinctive' than Kam Chancellor

When the Oakland Raiders drafted West Virginia safety Karl Joseph with the 14th overall pick, he drew comparisons to Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor.

Former Raiders safety and current assistant defensive backs coach Rod Woodson has different opinions about Joseph, and why the team brought him to Oakland.

"He's a natural instinctive player. He's not a Kam Chancellor," Woodson told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Kam is kind of an in-the-box safety who can terrorize receivers coming across the middle, make a lot of big hits. I don't think Karl Joseph is that guy. I think he's more instinctive. I think he plays great in space.

"One thing that drew us to him was that he really worked hard, he loves football, he's kind of a football junkie, so to speak. I think you can't teach the instincts that he has. ... He's going to be quite an addition to the silver and black for quite a long time."

Joseph is projected to start at safety alongside veteran addition Reggie Nelson next season as part of an improved Raiders defense.
