In the wake of Pablo Sandoval's shoulder surgery Tuesday, when the 29-year-old underwent rotator cuff cleanup and the repair of a torn labrum, Hanley Ramirez offered his teammate some advice.

"It's going to be a lot of work," Ramirez explained to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford. "It's not going to be easy. It's five years and I'm still not feeling the same. It's not going to be the same. Your swing might change a little bit. You have to find a way to adjust. It's going to take a lot of hours, every day."

Ramirez, like Sandoval, underwent similar shoulder surgery in 2011 and he's still feeling it to this day, thanks mostly due to a collision with an outfield fence last season.

And while the surgery is a painful procedure to deal with, Ramirez thinks the most challenging part of recovering is rehab, which is where he wanted to pass along some friendly advice.

"The hardest thing is not the surgery. The hardest thing is the rehab," Ramirez said. "My advice to Pablo is that it's going to take a lot of work. A lot of work, a lot of education, and a lot of discipline because you use your shoulder for everything. I know that he can do it."

The Red Sox are getting more bang for their buck out of the 32-year-old Ramirez, who inked a four-year, $88-million contract one day after Sandoval signed his five-year, $90-million deal in 2014.

The first baseman is hitting .284/.306/.412 with two home runs and 16 RBIs, while Sandoval failed to record a hit before the surgery ended his season.
