Report: Kings' discussions with Joerger 'progressing rapidly'

The Sacramento Kings appear to be zeroing in on their next head coach.

Talks between Dave Joerger and the Kings' front office are reportedly progressing rapidly, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, who notes the Kings picked up the recently fired Memphis Grizzlies coach and his family in a private jet Sunday.

Sources also tell Wojnarowski that the deal is believed to be in the neighborhood of $12 million over three years, while Marc Stein of ESPN reports the two sides are discussing a four-year, $16-million deal.

Joerger vaulted up to the top of the Kings' wish list moments after he was fired by the Grizzlies on Saturday. It was reported the 42-year-old head coach had recently asked Memphis for permission to interview for Sacramento's opening and the two sides parted ways due to Joerger's pursuit of other openings.

The Grizzlies went 147-99 in three years under Joerger and reached the playoffs this season despite having an NBA-record 28 players suit up due to injuries.

Wojnarowski reports that Joerger will be given full autonomy by the Kings to hire his own assistant coaching staff, with former Toronto Raptors assistant Bill Bayno among the likely candidates.
