Report: Rockets interview Sam Cassell for head coach

The Houston Rockets are embarking upon an all-encompassing head coaching search to rival that of the Sacramento Kings.

Having withdrawn his name from the search, interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff's time leading Houston has come to an end. Bickerstaff led the team to a 37-34 record following the sacking of Kevin McHale, and will reportedly receive plenty of offers to become a lead assistant.

In search of a replacement, the Rockets will reportedly look at 10-15 candidates, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.

One such candidate is Sam Cassell, who met with ownership and general manager Daryl Morey on Tuesday. The 15-year NBA veteran won two titles with the Rockets in 1994 and 1995 and holds a great relationship with team owner Les Alexander.

Cassell has served as an assistant with the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers over the past seven seasons.

In addition to Cassell, the Rockets are also working to set up interviews with former Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek and Charlotte Hornets assistant Stephen Silas. The team also met with Rockets assistant Chris Finch.
