Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts' future might be in question.

The team has yet to pick up Stotts' option for 2016-17 and the two sides have yet to discuss an extension, a source tells USA Today's Sam Amick.

That same source told Amick that there's optimism of a deal being struck but nothing is yet certain.

Stotts finished second to Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr in Coach of the Year voting this season. Having lost four of his team's five starters coming into the year, the Blazers were picked by most to finish as a lottery team. Instead, Stotts guided a young roster to its third straight playoff run.

Portland finished with 44 wins in the regular season and defeated an injury-plagued Los Angeles Clippers squad in the first round of the playoffs.

Through his eight seasons as a head coach, Stotts holds a record of 297-314 split between three franchises.
