The Oakland Raiders are expected to decline the fifth-year option on cornerback DJ Hayden's rookie contract, reports Adam Caplan of ESPN, citing a source.

Hayden has been unable to make good on his potential for three seasons after joining the club as a first-round pick in 2013. He missed 14 games due to injury over his first two years, before being moved in and out of the starting lineup in 2015.

The 25-year-old remains under contract through the upcoming season, and he'd be a candidate for an extension should he manage to take a significant step forward. Working against him, however, is the fact that Oakland has done well to upgrade the position of late.

Hayden will likely enter training camp no higher than the No. 4 spot on the cornerback depth chart, working behind Sean Smith, David Amerson, and TJ Carrie.
