There was a welcome sight at Bayern Munich's training facility Monday with Franck Ribery's return to the pitch after missing Saturday's draw with Borussia Monchengladbach with a back injury.

While his availability for Tuesday's second-leg tie with Atletico Madrid has not been confirmed by manager Pep Guardiola, the French midfielder insisted that he wants to play after providing an encouraging update to German publication Kicker.

"I am doing a lot better," Ribery said, as translated by Goal.

"I have been doing some running and will resume squad training on Monday. I am ready for the game against Atletico. I am really looking forward to playing against them. I have to play."

Ribery, who has not appeared in Guardiola's squad since Bayern's 2-0 win over Werder Bremen on April 19, was forced to sit out last week's 1-0 loss to the Spanish side at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid.
