Watch: Donaldson's moonshot clangs Tropicana Field catwalk
Josh Donaldson hoped Thursday's off-day would help the Toronto Blue Jays' reeling offense get going a little bit.
It certainly worked for him.
On Friday night, after watching his team eke out just one run in their previous two games, Donaldson provided an offensive spark in his club's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays, crushing a sixth-inning solo shot off left-hander Drew Smyly that just about soared to the moon. As Donaldson's towering blast headed for the stratosphere, though, the ball clanged off either ring C or D of Tropicana Field's catwalk, abruptly halting its lunar voyage.
Donaldson, the reigning American League MVP, now has eight home runs through his first 24 games of 2016, putting him on pace for 54 round-trippers this year.
