Stephen Jones: Cowboys fielding trade offers for Ronald Leary

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the most stacked offensive lines in the league. With such depth of talent, though, it's inevitable for some capable players to be left on the sidelines.

One of those players is guard Ronald Leary, who signed his restricted free-agent tender Thursday with the intent of facilitating a trade.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed his team is fielding offers for Leary and that a trade could happen over the remaining portion of the draft.

"We've had calls on him, yeah," Jones said, according to David Helman of the Cowboys' official site. "If we needed to do something today, we could have."

"As the draft goes, if the right situation presented itself - we think the world of Ron," he added. "If we got what we thought was fair, and Ron thought he was getting a chance to be a starter - which, I think he is a starting-caliber guard. If it worked out for both of us, we’d like to help him out - and help us out."

Leary was rendered expendable last season after La'el Collins seized his starting job, and with Zack Martin locked in at the other guard spot, the 27-year-old would likely be resigned to backup duty in 2016 if he remains in Dallas.

While mid-draft trades for players are rare given the lack of offensive line talent in the NFL currently, a veteran guard could be attractive to teams that don't want to take a risk on developing a late-round selection.

"Obviously, he'd like to start somewhere, and I don't blame him for that," Jones said. "I think he's a starting-caliber offensive guard in this league."
