The Kansas City Chiefs didn't make a first-round selection Thursday night, deciding to trade their pick to the San Francisco 49ers. However, they reportedly did so after failing to engineer a move up to snag one of the draft's top wide receiver prospects.

The Chiefs attempted to get Laquon Treadwell, a source told Alex Marvez of FOX Sports.

Unfortunately for Kansas City, the Minnesota Vikings snapped up Treadwell with the 23rd overall pick, and the Chiefs, with their top targets presumably off the board, decided their best option was to move down.

The attempt indicates the Chiefs will be in the market for a wideout early on Day 2 of the draft, with Michael Thomas, Braxton Miller, and Tyler Boyd all likely to be available with either of the team's second-round picks.
