Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant underwent a precautionary MRI that revealed he suffered a mild ankle sprain. He'll be reexamined by training staff.

Bryant left Thursday's 7-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers with what was initially thought to be a rolled ankle. After he was hit by two pitches earlier in the game, Bryant was hurt while running the bases in the third inning.

"I don't know," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters. "I honestly don't know. You saw him jog off the field. I don't want to create conjecture. Let's see what happens with the test."

He was replaced by Javier Baez in left field to kick off the fifth inning. The only indication of severity was he continued playing for another inning before he was pulled.

Bryant is batting .289 with four home runs and six doubles this season.
