Report: Jeff Tedford looking to join Washington coaching staff

Kelley L Cox / US PRESSWIRE

Former California coach Jeff Tedford is eyeing a return to the Pac-12 after a one-year stint in the CFL.

Tedford has had discussions with Washington Huskies head coach Chris Peterson about potentially joining his staff as an offensive consultant, reports Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

The former Cal head coach has been a visitor at multiple Washington spring practices and has a history with Peterson dating back to their time together in the 1990's at Oregon. Huskies linebacker coach Bob Gregory has also served as Tedford's defensive coordinator at Cal.

A source said Tedford is going to work with an elite recruiting camp in the summer, so per NCAA compliance rules, he must wait until after the camp finishes before being eligible to join any college staff.

Tedford spent 2015 as the head coach of the CFL's B.C. Lions, leading them to a 7-11 record. The 54-year-old announced his resignation from the team in December. He had previously served as Cal head coach from 2002-2012, winning five bowl games and two Pac-12 coach of the year awards.
