Arsenal's Elneny: Wenger told me to shoot less

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny may still be somewhat green at the Emirates Stadium, but he's already undergone a change in playing style under the instruction of embattled manager Arsene Wenger.

The Egyptian joined the Gunners out of FC Basel in January with a reputation for scoring long-range goals. But, under Wenger, Elneny has had to adapt to a new system that limits his attempts from outside the box.

"I used to shoot a lot when I was at Basel but sometimes that doesn't suit our style here," Elneny told Arsenal Magazine, as quoted by ESPN FC. "He (Wenger) taught me to be more of a team player and to be intelligent in terms of when I shoot. I also paid attention to my teammates and took their advice. That has helped me to improve my performances already."

For Elneny, limiting his shooting may be necessary to enjoy life at Arsenal, though his only goal for the club came from a long-range shot against Barcelona in the Champions League. Still, working under Wenger gives him plenty of lessons to try and absorb, too.

"The most important thing for me has been listening to Arsene Wenger's advice and putting it into action," Elneny explained. "The manager has been giving me advice since the first day I arrived at the training ground. He always talks to me about the game and my position and that gave me a lot of confidence.

"He often instructs me to press the opponent and not give them time on the ball in our half. He's also helped me to understand the system and playing style he prefers to see us playing."
