Cormier vs. Jones announced as new UFC 200 main event
Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will fight interim champion Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 200 on July 9, the UFC announced.
The announcement was made on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday and comes just days after Conor McGregor was pulled from the card after balking at participating in promotional events.
Cormier vs. Jones is a long awaited rematch of their January 2015 battle, which saw Jones win by unanimous decision.
The landscape is much different now, with Jones having been out of action for more than a year as the result of a hit-and-run incident and subsequent suspension. With Jones sidelined, Cormier won the title and mounted a successful defense against Alexander Gustafsson in October.
Jones and Cormier were scheduled to fight at last weekend's UFC 197, but Cormier suffered a leg injury and was removed from the card. Jones fought Ovince Saint Preux instead and won the newly-created interim light heavyweight championship.
On the evening of the biggest UFC card in history, two of the sport's top fighters will clash with a unified title on the line.
