Report: Sakho won't contest positive drug test

Mamadou Sakho will not contest the results of a drug test that produced a positive outcome for a banned substance, according to the Press Association.

The Liverpool defender had the opportunity to request further tests using his B sample, but declined the option ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

Instead, Sakho will plead mitigating factors to UEFA after reportedly testing positive for a fat-burning substance after Liverpool's Europa League match against Manchester United on March 17, according to James Pearce of Liverpool Echo.

The report adds that Liverpool will not provide further comment on the matter.

In a statement before Liverpool's match Saturday against Newcastle United, the team revealed that Sakho will not be available for selection for its upcoming matches - a decision made by both the player and the club.

Sakho, who has appeared in 22 Premier League matches this term, joined Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 for a transfer fee reportedly worth £18 million.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will continue its journey in the Europa League on Thursday during a semi-final tie with Villarreal in Spain.
