Parsons lobbies for Howard to join Mavericks
Chandler Parsons is once again leading the charge on recruiting a marquee free agent to Dallas.
Having struck out on DeAndre Jordan last summer, Parsons has now turned his attention to his former teammate Dwight Howard, who could become a free agent if he declines his player option for 2016-17.
"I think he can still dominate the game," Parsons said of Howard, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "I think he can still be a great player in this league. And I think he's going to leave Houston, so why not come here?"
The announcement comes weeks after a report suggested the Mavericks would be interested in Howard, although they're not willing to pay him the max.
Dallas also reportedly chased Howard with a maximum contract in 2013 when he was one of the most highly sought after names on the market.
Parsons and Howard once shared an agent, but Howard has since changed representation. Nevertheless, the two remain good friends - so good that Howard once gifted Parsons a Ferrari.
Howard averaged 13.7 points and 11.8 rebounds in 71 appearances this season. The Mavericks should have more than enough cap room to sign both Howard and Parsons to expensive deals.
