David Murphy's time with the Minnesota Twins appears to be over.

The outfielder, who signed a minor-league deal with the club just three weeks ago, has requested his release from the team, according to Mike Berardino of The Pioneer Press.

Murphy spent spring training with the Boston Red Sox, but opted out of his contract when he discovered he would not make the club's major-league roster. He then signed with the Twins but opened the season in Triple-A with the Rochester Red Wings, slashing .194/.256/.306 in 10 games.

The 34-year-old's decision may be a precursor to calling it quits on his professional career. Murphy admitted in March that he wasn't interested in playing in the minor leagues and was looking to spend more time with his family, adding that retirement was a legitimate possibility.
