Klopp says Liverpool duo Ings, Can may still play this season

With at least seven and potentially eight matches left to play this season, Liverpool is hoping that the injured tandem of Danny Ings and Emre Can could yet play a role in the club's domestic and continental campaigns.

Liverpool hosts Newcastle on Saturday before a midweek visit to the Estadio El Madrigal for the fist leg of the Europa League semi-final with Villarreal, and a return to fitness for the ailed duo can only help the Merseysiders' ambitions.

Ings, 23, joined Liverpool in the summer from Burnley and appeared in just five Premier League matches before suffering a cruciate injury in October.

"Danny's in a really good way but he's not back in team training yet," Klopp said. "Maybe two weeks, I'm not too sure.

"It was four or five days ago when someone sent me the email saying it was two weeks until he could train with the team. I don't know if he will be able to play again this season, that depends on how he recovers. He's been out for a long time."

While Ings' return to fitness remains shrouded in uncertainty, his Reds mate Can could make a miraculous return for Liverpool's run-in.

Can, 22, was ruled out for six weeks after suffering a ruptured ankle ligament during the club's stunning come-from-behind victory over Borussia Dortmund on April 14.

"He's recovering much better," Klopp offered. "There might be a new timescale but I'm not telling you because there is no proof yet! But he is very good."
