Filling In Your Saturday MLB Lineups: Early Edition
Here are theScore's sample lineups for Saturday's early MLB slate:
Cash Game With One Pitcher
POS | NAME | OPPONENT |
---|---|---|
P | Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) | vs. TB |
C | Bryan Holaday (TEX) | vs. CWS |
1B | Miguel Cabrera (DET) | vs. CLE |
2B | Dustin Pedroia (BOS) | at HOU |
3B | Adrian Beltre (TEX) | at CWS |
SS | Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. BOS |
OF | Billy Burns (OAK) | at TOR |
OF | Adam Eaton (CWS) | vs. TEX |
OF | Jackie Bradley Jr. (BOS) | at HOU |
Of the higher-end pitching options on the early slate, Tanaka faces the weakest lineup; other than OF Corey Dickerson and platoon man Brandon Guyer, the Rays have been unable to hit righties with consistency this season. An All-Star infield raises the floor of this lineup, but requires finding bargains behind the plate and in the outfield. Burns and Eaton benefit from batting lead-off.
GPP With One Pitcher
POS | NAME | OPPONENT |
---|---|---|
P | Chris Bassitt (OAK) | at TOR |
C | Victor Martinez (DET) | vs. CLE |
1B | Miguel Cabrera (DET) | vs. CLE |
2B | Brian Dozier (MIN) | at WAS |
3B | Adrian Beltre (TEX) | at CWS |
SS | Marcus Semien (OAK) | at TOR |
OF | Bryce Harper (WAS) | vs. MIN |
OF | J.D. Martinez (DET) | vs. CLE |
OF | Coco Crisp (OAK) | at TOR |
The Jays' core has struggled to hit righties so far this season, so if Bassitt can avoid the big inning, he could find himself with a win and a handful of strikeouts. Indians SP Corey Kluber carries the weight of a former Cy Young winner, but he has been anything but untouchable; Cabrera and both Martinezes have had success against him in the past. Take advantage of rostering V-Mart in formats where he is (laughably) listed as a catcher.

Cash Game With Two Pitchers
POS | NAME | OPPONENT |
---|---|---|
P | Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) | vs. TB |
P | J.A. Happ (TOR) | vs. OAK |
C | Bryan Holaday (TEX) | vs. CWS |
1B | Miguel Cabrera (DET) | vs. CLE |
2B | Jose Altuve (HOU) | vs. BOS |
3B | Adrian Beltre (TEX) | at CWS |
SS | Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. BOS |
OF | Bryce Harper (WAS) | vs. MIN |
OF | Adam Eaton (CWS) | vs. TEX |
OF | Jackie Bradley Jr. (BOS) | at HOU |
Happ is a fine SP2 against the A's; he has only allowed four earned runs through three starts and though he's not a major strikeout pitcher, the Jays should give him the run support needed to chase a win. Beltre crushes left-handed pitchers, so SP Carlos Rodon better tread lightly. Harper is a must-play in cash games, as he has six HRs and 17 RBIs in his past 10 games.
GPP With Two Pitchers
POS | NAME | OPPONENT |
---|---|---|
P | Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) | vs. TB |
P | Chris Bassitt (OAK) | at TOR |
C | Brian McCann (NYY) | vs. TB |
1B | Miguel Cabrera (DET) | vs. CLE |
2B | Ian Kinsler (DET) | vs. CLE |
3B | Adrian Beltre (TEX) | at CWS |
SS | Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. BOS |
OF | Bryce Harper (WAS) | vs. MIN |
OF | Mookie Betts (BOS) | vs. HOU |
OF | Coco Crisp (OAK) | at TOR |
A lack of high-upside pitching on the early slates warrants Tanaka's use in both cash and tournament lineups. McCann is boom-or-bust but will get to test rookie prospect Blake Snell in his major league debut. Crisp has two homers and four steals in his last 10 games so he has the potential to swing a tournament if he's on his A-game on Saturday.
