Maccagnan: Jets aren't actively shopping Wilkerson, won't rescind franchise tag
The New York Jets don't appear any closer to a resolution with defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson.
General manager Mike Maccagnan declined to discuss the Wilkerson situation Friday during his pre-draft news conference, only saying that the Jets aren't actively shopping him.
"He's, in essence, under contract for this season," Maccagnan told reporters.
Maccagnan made similar comments last month, which were contradicted by a report from Brian Costello of the New York Post that the Jets were looking for a trade partner who would be willing to give up at least a first-round pick in this year's draft.
Wilkerson has yet to sign his franchise tag, and was a no-show for the start of the Jets' offseason program.
Asked if the Jets would consider rescinding the tag, like the Carolina Panthers did with cornerback Josh Norman, Maccagnan replied, "The simple answer is no. I don't view that as an option."
Maccagnan said the Jets inquired about the No. 1 overall pick before the Tennessee Titans completed their trade with the Los Angeles Rams, but wouldn't disclose whether Wilkerson was involved in the talks.
