Chicharito sidesteps questions about Leverkusen future

Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has enjoyed a stellar campaign in his first season with the Bundesliga side; however, even with a return to first-team successes, the Mexican international is reluctant to commit his future to the club.

"My future doesn't only hinge on me," he said. "I live in the here and now. You can plan everything in life, but sometimes life plans for you," Chicharito told Bild, courtesy of ESPN FC.

"The club, which owns you, decides whether it still needs you or wants to sell you. It's just like that in (the) football business."

Following an underwhelming loan spell with Real Madrid while on Manchester United's books, the 27-year-old Guadalajara native has enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Roger Schmidt's lot.

Chicharito has 16 league goals this season in 25 appearances paired with five in six during the club's Champions League run. With the club sitting third in the Bundesliga table and poised for an automatic berth in the continent's top-tier tournament, the 80-time capped El Tri standout's future with the side appears tethered to the Champions League.

"We want to qualify for the Champions League, without the playoffs," he added. "Everyone wants to play in the best competition in this world."

Chicharito, who joined Leverkusen in the summer for a reported fee of £7.3 million on a three-year deal, is pleased with his tenure at the club despite the uncertainty concerning his future, saying, "I am very thankful, and give my all for the club."
