Report: Mauricio Pochettino wants Mikel Arteta to join Tottenham's staff

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly wants Arsenal's captain to cross north London.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Pochettino hopes Arteta will join Tottenham Hotspur and assume a coaching position, which has resulted in Arsenal being pushed to the back of the queue of clubs willing to offer the Spanish midfielder his first coaching job. It should be noted the pair played together at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Tottenham will apparently have to contend with Manchester City for Arteta's services, as the 34-year-old, whose contract expires at season's end and who's allegedly contemplating hanging up his cleats, is also desired by Pep Guardiola.

As Law explains, both Pochettino and Guardiola could consider appointing Arteta in a player-coach role if the captain is undecided about retirement as a player.

Arsenal, on the other hand, has reportedly held nothing more than "casual conversations" with Arteta over the matter, and there isn't much indication that he fits into Arsene Wenger's coaching plans.
