MLB superstars gear up in honor of Jackie Robinson

Major League Baseball will begin to honor Jackie Robinson during their annual tradition Friday when the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies take to Wrigley Field at 2:20 p.m. ET.

While a number of players and clubs have already begun to salute the legendary player who broke MLB's color barrier, a number of others plan to thank Robinson for his heroic efforts by wearing custom gear in his honor.

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia won't be taking the hill for his club against the Seattle Mariners, but the 35-year-old will wear some gorgeous cleats to the ballpark to show his appreciation for No. 42.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig decided to show off his Brooklyn Dodgers jacket to remember Robinson, and did so while adding some flash aboard a motorboat.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward and New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson, like Sabathia, intend to show their appreciation of Robinson by wearing brand new custom cleats with a No. 42 emblazoned along the sides.

Robinson, who made history April 15, 1947, hit .311/.409/.474 with 137 home runs, 734 RBIs, and 197 stolen bases during a storied career, which also included a batting title and MVP award in 1949.
