Georgia's Clay, Rochester face weapons charges

Two Georgia players face felony charges after being arrested early Tuesday.

Freshmen cornerback Chad Clay and defensive tackle Julian Rochester were arrested and charged with having a weapon in a school zone and second degree criminal damage, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

The school claims the charges stem from possession of a BB gun and property damage.

"I'm disappointed with the poor judgment of Julian and Chad," coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. "We expect full compliance with the policies of the University and of our football program from all our student-athletes. Information is still being gathered but they will be disciplined in an appropriate manner."

Both players were highly regarded recruits who enrolled early as members of the 2016 class. Rochester ranks as the 23rd prospect on the ESPN 300, while Clay also finds himself on the list at No. 247.

The players are the second and third members of the Bulldogs to be arrested since Smart took over, joining Jonathan Ledbetter who was booked on two alcohol-related charges earlier this spring.
