Auburn no further along in naming a starting quarterback

Auburn appears no closer to resolving the messy quarterback situation that plagued the Tigers throughout last season.

Despite opportunities all spring long for one of Jeremy Johnson, Sean White, and John Franklin III to ascend to the top of the depth chart, head coach Gus Malzahn says he's no closer to naming a starter than he was when the offseason began.

"I'm not ready to say that yet," Malzahn said Saturday when asked if he'll name a leader by the end of spring camp.

When pressed on whether he has a name in mind for the job, Malzahn replied, "Not at this moment."

While each quarterback showed signs of life in Saturday's spring game, none of the three contenders separated themselves from the pack.

It is, perhaps, because of the pessimism revolving around the quarterback situation that Auburn drew its lowest attendance to a spring scrimmage in the Malzahn era. A crowd of 45,723 watched the Blue and White square off, which is still the sixth-highest figure in program history but is the lowest in the four years Malzahn has been at the helm.
