Report: Saints sign former German team quarterback Griffin Neal

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a deal with former Concordia College and Hildesheim Invaders quarterback Griffin Neal, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

The unknown prospect participated in University of Tulane's pro day last month through a connection with former Tulane receiver Xavier Rush and caught the eye of Saints' scouts. He was invited to their local pro day Friday and left with a contract offer.

"I showed up there [for Tulane's pro day], and nobody knew who I was," Neal told The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead via ESPN. "But the fact I was in the same facility as some key decision makers, I was in the right place at the right time, and I had a great day. I was just hoping for any opportunity. Now I have it, and hopefully I can take advantage of it."

Neal spent last season with the Invaders of the German Football League 2 where he led his team to a 10-3-1 record, passing for 3,268 yards and 30 touchdowns, and rushed for 767 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4 signal caller is also the all-time leading passer for Concordia College as a three-year starter.

It's unknown whether the Saints are planning to draft a quarterback this year, but Neal will have his work cut out for him either way. Drew Brees will remain the saints starter, backup Luke McCown signed a new two-year deal, and last year's third-round pick Garret Grayson is also on the roster.
