Report: Watson, Walton, D'Antoni among Suns' targets for head coach vacancy

The Phoenix Suns have their eyes locked on several candidates who could permanently fill the void at head coach left by Jeff Hornacek's dismissal back in February.

Earl Watson has acted as the interim head coach since then, and is one of "a broad list of targets" the Suns will consider for the job, team sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Golden State Warriors assistant Luke Walton, former Suns coach and current assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers Mike D'Antoni, and former Suns player Dan Majerle are all reportedly on management's radar.

Walton, who led the Warriors to the second-best record through 43 games in NBA history at 39-4 in Steve Kerr's absence, is perceived as a long-shot hire for Phoenix, coaching sources told ESPN.

It was reported back in February that the Suns had strong interest in former two-time league Most Valuable Player Steve Nash, although the feeling wasn't mutual. Nash spent 10 years in a Suns uniform, averaging 14.4 points and 9.4 assists in Arizona's Urban Heart.

He's reportedly content with focusing his attention on his children, his outside projects, and his consulting position with the defending NBA champions, and has no desire to become a coach anytime soon.

Days after coaching his Villanova Wildcats to a National Championship, it was reported that benchboss Jay Wright was also in the mix, stemming off his relationship with general manager Ryan McDonough.

The Suns currently own the second-worst record in the Western Conference at 21-58, which will keep them out of the playoffs for the sixth year in a row.
