The Chicago Cubs will be without slugger Kyle Schwarber for the remainder of the season after he was diagnosed with full tears in his left ACL and LCL on Friday. He also suffered a severe ankle sprain.

The news comes a day after Schwarber and teammate Dexter Fowler were involved in a scary collision during Thursday's game in Arizona. The two outfielders slammed into each other while in pursuit of Jean Segura's second-inning inside-the-park homer, his second home run of the game.

Schwarber struggled to get to his feet without the assistance of training staff. He remained down for several minutes before getting carted off the field, and was later spotted in the clubhouse using crutches.

Utility infielder Munenori Kawasaki has been recalled and will join the Cubs on Friday against the Diamondbacks, while Schwarber has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Jorge Soler is starting in left field Friday, but manager Joe Maddon expects Tommy La Stella to receive more playing time at third base if he decides to rotate Kris Bryant into the outfield.

Schwarber, the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft, made the Cubs' Opening Day roster after a strong second half in 2015, when he slashed .333/.419/.889 with a franchise-record five homers during the postseason.
