Report: Bengals, Marvin Lewis agree to contract extension through 2017

The Cincinnati Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis have agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2017 season, reports Mike Silver of NFL Network.

Lewis' deal was initially set to expire at the conclusion of the upcoming season. The minor extension, though relatively standard in keeping coaches away from the uncertainty of a contract year, gives him some added security.

The Bengals have been one of the league's most well-rounded teams for the better part of the last four seasons, but questions have consistently been raised about Lewis' job status looking to the future.

Despite boasting a 112-94-2 regular-season record, and the fact that he's led Cincinnati to the postseason in six of the last seven years, he's still without a playoff victory.

The 2015 season marked Lewis' most successful to date, as the Bengals finished atop the AFC North with a 12-4 record.
