Tate's manager denies receiving offer for Holm rematch
At this rate, Miesha Tate and Holly Holm's representatives are going to end up fighting before their clients do.
On Thursday, Holm's agent, Lenny Fresquez, accused Tate of taking on a "weaker opponent" in response to the news that the women's bantamweight champion's first title defense would be against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 on July 9.
Tate stood by her story that it was the UFC which decided to pass on a rematch with Holm in favor of Nunes. Manager Josh Jones stuck up for Tate on Friday.
"A fight with Holly Holm was never discussed when we met with the UFC," Jones told MMA Fighting. "We all agreed that Miesha should fight the best available and at this time it's Amanda Nunes, who is currently on a three-fight win streak."
Nunes is ranked No. 4 in the UFC's official rankings, behind Holm, Ronda Rousey, and Cat Zingano. Rousey has repeatedly said she will not return until the fall and Zingano is booked to fight Julianna Pena, leaving Nunes as the most prominent challenger who Tate has not already fought.
