Fantasy Fallout: Travis' Return Could Kick-Start Scuffling Blue Jays Offense

Here are the fantasy repercussions of the Toronto Blue Jays activating 2B Devon Travis off the disabled list:
Season-Long Fantasy
If Travis is unowned in your league, pick him up immediately - regardless of your situation at second base. Even if he sits on your bench, a hot start by the second-year player could make him a valuable trade piece.
Travis was the American League Rookie of the Month in April a season ago. He hit .325/.393/.625 with six homers, six doubles and 19 RBIs to take home the honors.
A shoulder injury hindered his production following the hot-start, but he still finished the season hitting .304/.361/.498 in 217 at-bats and was on-pace for 21 long balls, 47 doubles and 91 RBIs.
Travis showed a very mature approach at the dish for a rookie. He displayed the ability to produce line drives all across the field. His home run total from a season ago was a bit inflated by a high HR/FB (home run/fly ball) rate, but the doubles were no fluke. He has exceptional opposite field power.

Daily Fantasy
Despite being on the disabled list all season long, Travis is still priced as a mid-tier second baseman. It's best to limit him to tournament lineups for the time being considering he hasn't played a major league game since July 28.
There's also the uncertainty of where he will hit in the lineup. It's safe to imagine he will start his 2016 campaign at the bottom-of-the-order, but don't expect him to be there for too long if he picks up where he left off last season.
Travis spent 22 games as Toronto's leadoff man in 2015. It would make plenty of sense for him to takeover that role once he shakes off the rust considering two-time home run champ Jose Bautista is currently hitting at the top-of-the-order. Here's an idea of the kind of protection Travis could have hitting leadoff:
NAME | POS | HANDEDNESS |
---|---|---|
1. Devon Travis | 2B | R |
2. Josh Donaldson | 3B | R |
3. Jose Bautista | RF | R |
4. Edwin Encarnacion | DH | R |
5. Michael Saunders | LF | L |
6. Troy Tulowitzki | SS | R |
7. Justin Smoak | 1B | S |
8. Russell Martin | C | R |
9. Kevin Pillar | CF | R |
Toronto's offense has vastly underachieved this season, but maybe Travis could be the spark the Blue Jays need to ignite the offense.
