Tim Duncan notches 1,000th career NBA win, all with Spurs
Tim Duncan hit another major milestone in his remarkable career Tuesday night, one that speaks to both his longevity and his unparalleled pedigree as a winner.
With his San Antonio Spurs' 88-86 nail-biter over the Utah Jazz - sealed in the dying seconds by Kawhi Leonard - Duncan picked up his 1,000th career regular-season win.
He's just the third player ever to hit the millennial mark, joining Robert Parish (1,014) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,074). There are a couple crucial differences, though, that make Duncan's feat more impressive.
For one, he's lost just 389 games, giving him a career winning percentage of .719. That works out to an average of 59 wins per 82-game season. Across a 19-year career. Abdul-Jabbar's and Parish's individual winning percentages were .688 and .629, respectively.
For another, Duncan recorded each and every one of those wins with the same franchise. A Spurs lifer, he is the only player ever to hit the 1,000-game plateau with one team. Only nine other players have even appeared in 1,000 games with one team.
So, yeah, he'll probably go into the Hall of Fame wearing black and silver.
