Kolar is being groomed to fill the same role J.W Walsh was used in last season, Kyle Fredrickson of The Oklahoman reports.

Analysis:

Kolar redshirted last season but is ready to fill in as Oklahoma State's backup quarterback this year, a role that is more highly coveted in Stillwater than it is on other campuses. At 6-foot-4, Kolar has put on 20 pounds of muscle over the past year and is now up to 200 pounds. His athleticism, including a reported 4.55-second 40 yard dash in high school, should allow him to take on the role Walsh was used in last season. Walsh accounted for 26 total touchdowns (13 passing, 13 rushing) as Mason Rudolph's backup in 2015, getting most of his use in specialized packages in redzone situations. If Kolar can emulate Walsh (6-foot-2, 215 lbs), he'll add the dimension to the Cowboys offense that made them a dangerous unit a year ago. By that same token, heavy Kolar use may put a cap on Rudolph's touchdown production.
