Report: BYU to name Ty Detmer offensive coordinator
Douglas C. Pizac / US PRESSWIRE
BYU is set to hire one of the best players to ever suit up for the Cougars.
Ty Detmer will be the new offensive coordinator in Provo, according to Rob Zundel of KSL.com.
Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 and set 63 NCAA records - three of which still stand - during his time at BYU.
He went on to play 14 seasons in the NFL, and will reportedly return to his alma mater for his first coaching job.
Detmer's also set to handle coaching the quarterbacks. That should be beneficial for freshman pivot Tanner Mangum, who looks to be the starter again next season.
