Mark Richt says he's already been contacted by 'about five' schools

Mark Richt may not be looking for work much longer.

During his weekly radio show Monday night, the outgoing Georgia head coach said a handful of schools have already contacted him about a coaching job.

"Yeah, there’s about five today," Richt said, according to Seth Emerson of DawgNation. "It’s kinda crazy. But I’m not sure, again, what I’m gonna do yet. But it’s nice to have opportunities and options."

Richt and Georgia agreed to part ways Saturday as the Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season schedule.

He said earlier Monday he plans to continue coaching, and the veteran coach should find himself with a nice crop of Power 5 jobs from which to choose. Maryland and Miami have been linked to Richt since Georgia announced he wouldn't return in 2016, and South Carolina and Missouri also have relatively high-profile openings.

According to a source who spoke with Richt on Monday, the 55-year-old is likely to wait a couple of weeks before taking part in formal interviews. However, Richt made it clear he's ready to talk to teams immediately.

"In the past 15 years, if I’ve had a headhunter call me and say: 'Are you interested in this job? Are you interested in that job?' or whatever job that may be, it's always been a real simple answer for me to say, 'no, this is where I want to be,'" Richt said. "Now I’m losing the opportunity to be the coach at Georgia, I think it’s at least respectful to listen to what they have to say, and just try to decide what’s in the best interest of my family, and not even so much that, but just try to be obedient into what God’s got in store for me. So that’s kind of where I’m at."

Richt spent the last 15 years at Georgia and compiled a 145-51 record. His Bulldogs captured six SEC East division championships.
