Ohio State rolls Michigan without drama in Ann Arbor

Rick Osentoski / USA TODAY Sports

It wasn't the battle everyone was anticipating, but Ohio State won't complain, as it cruised to a 42-13 victory over Michigan on Saturday.

In what should've been a closer game, the revered Michigan defense was non-existent, giving up 484 yards while proving unable to contain the Buckeyes' running game.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Ohio State didn't need to throw the ball, and that became obvious very early. Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett threw for only 113 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, he rushed for 139 yards and three scores.
  • A week after Ezekiel Elliott made headlines for not getting the ball enough, and vocalizing his frustration, all eyes were on him. It's safe to say that Elliott walked the walk, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Linebacker Joey Bosa was also a force, recording an interception that he tipped to himself, and dealing the biggest blow of the game - a sack that knocked Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock out of action.
  • Across the field, Rudock didn't have a terrible game, but just couldn't execute the big play. He threw for 263 yards and a touchdown, before being removed for his injury and replaced by backup Wilton Speight.
  • The rushing game was invisible, so lets not even go there.
  • Downfield, receiver Jehu Chesson had a good day, catching a touchdown and racking up 111 yards.
  • Although Michigan didn't make it to the College Football Playoff, a three-loss regular season under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh is something to be proud of, considering how last season went.
  • Not to mention, the Wolverines will play in a bowl game, which will give them a chance for their first 10-win season since 2011.
  • As for Ohio State, the CFP dream isn't dead. If Penn State can knock off Michigan State, the Buckeyes will go to the Big Ten championship against Iowa. If they can beat the Hawkeyes, the selection committee will need to make a decision on which Big Ten school qualifies for the final four.

Play of the Game

Early on, J.T. Barrett realized Michigan was vulnerable to stopping him on the ground. On one of his three rushing scores, he split the Wolverines' defense on his way to a slick touchdown.
