Caylor Arnold / USA TODAY Sports

Iowa spoiled Northwestern's homecoming on Saturday and walked out of Evanston, Ill., with a 40-10 win and a stranglehold on the top spot in the Big Ten West.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Iowa running back Jordan Canzeri left the game in the first quarter with a leg injury and did not return. He was carted to the locker room but did come back to the sidelines in a walking boot minutes later.
  • Northwestern allowed a 100-yard rusher for the first time this season as Akrum Wadley torched the Wildcats for a whopping 204 yards and four touchdowns.
  • With four scores on the day, Wadley tied Iowa's single-game school record for rushing touchdowns.
  • Northwestern scored all 10 of its points in the second quarter.
  • Iowa is 7-0 for the first time in six years and will surely see its No. 17 ranking improve in the next AP Poll.
  • For Homecoming day, at halftime Northwestern honored the 1995 Wildcats team that made it to the Rose Bowl.

Play of the Game

Wadley stole the show, but Derrick Mitchell Jr. got in on the act during the fourth quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run that included a sweet spin around the defence.

Up next for Iowa, following a bye, is a date with Maryland on Oct. 31. Northwestern travels to Nebraska on Oct. 24.
