Florida State's Josh Sweat to play in season opener
After undergoing major knee surgery last October, former five-star recruit Josh Sweat will see action in Florida State's season opener
Head coach Jimbo Fisher announced Thursday that the freshman defensive end, who was recovering from a dislocation and torn ACL in his left knee, will play on Sept. 5 against Texas State.
"He'll be ready to play and is healthy enough to play," Fisher said, according to ESPN's Jared Shanker. "He hasn't missed a practice, hasn't missed nothing."
Sweat was the No. 1 player in ESPN 300 when he sustained the major injury in his senior year. He committed to the Seminoles in December, choosing Florida State over offers from Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech.
The Florida State head coach was singing Sweat's praises earlier in August, noting that the defensive end is powerful, and shows no signs of setbacks.
"That guy is so strong. He's 237 pounds and doesn't look it. It looks like he's about 220, but everything on him is just so powerful," said Fisher, according to ESPN.
"He can hit and bend and he's got burst and can run."
