LSU AD on 9-game conference sched: SEC is tough, 'we don't need to make it tougher'

LSU athletics director Joe Alleva spoke earlier this week about the difficulty he's had booking quality non-conference opponents for the Tigers, saying opposing schools don't want to "schedule losses."

In spite of those troubles, Alleva isn't looking to lighten his load by adding another game in the conference. He doesn't believe the proposed idea of nine conference games will come to pass any time soon.

"I hope we don't get to that, but we'll see," Alleva said on ESPN's Paul Finebaum Show on Friday, as transcribed by CollegeFootballTalk. "We may get to that at some point. My personal opinion is this league is very tough and we don't need to make it tougher by playing another family member in the league and beating each other up more than we already do."

The SEC has continued with an eight-game conference schedule since expanding to 14 member schools. It will begin requiring its members to schedule a non-conference game against an opponent from a Power 5 conference, or one of Notre Dame, BYU, and Army.
