Ohio State self-reports violation after WR coach's 4-year-old son sends text message

The son of Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith has a future in recruiting. Unfortunately, the boy committed an NCAA violation.

Smith's son, a four-year-old, picked up his father's phone after he had called a recruit on May 27 and accidentally replied with an automated text message, prompting the Buckeyes to self-report the case, according to Tim Moody of The Lantern.

The violation was among 47 minor infractions the team self-reported in 2014.

The university dealt with the matter internally after sending a notice of the violation to the NCAA. 

The incident was reviewed as part of the NCAA's interpretations philosophy, which can pardon certain violations given a special circumstance.
