ACC on Winston contact with official: Incidental and insignificant

Melina Vastola / USA TODAY Sports

It doesn't appear as though Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will be reprimanded for making contact with an official in Saturday's 20-17 win over Boston College.

Winston didn't get ejected or even flagged on the play and the Atlantic Coast Conference seems to agree with the call, ESPN's Brett McMurphy reports.

Here's the official statement released by ACC coordinator of officials Doug Rhodes:

The center judge's positioning, which was due to the experimental year of having an eighth official, combined with the late substitution and by rule the need to allow the defense to matchup, led to contact between himself and the player. The official believed the contact was incidental and insignificant and did not rise to the level of unsportsmanlike conduct and automatic disqualification.
