LSU fans took chunks of Tiger Stadium field after Ole Miss game

After thousands of LSU supporters stormed Tiger Stadium following the team's upset win over Ole Miss, the fans left with chunks of the field.

Grounds crew members had to replace at least nine patches of sod that had been ripped out by fans, some as large as nine-by-four inches

“People took big hunks out,” said Eric Fasbender, assistant director of athletic facilities and grounds at LSU. “They wanted a souvenir.”

Fortunately, LSU is off this week, giving the grounds crew enough time to fix the turf.

According to The Advocate's Ross Dellenger, Fasbender did his best to dissuade people from helping themselves to the field, without completely raining on anyone's parade.

“It was really kind of a helpless feeling,” Fasbender said. “There were a lot of people I had to sternly but politely tell to refrain from removing chunks of our field."
