Team concedes football league title to rival after Seattle-area school shooting
A tragic shooting has a high school football team handing their rivals the championship.
The Oak Harbor Wildcats conceded Friday's title game to rival Marysville-Pilchuck, the site of a tragic shooting earlier in the day that left two dead and four injured in Marysville, Wash, according to FOX 12 Oregon.
Marysville-Pilchuck accepted the Wesco 3A North championship offer from Oak Habor's coach and superintendent..
Jaylen Fryberg, a freshman who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified as the shooter in Marysville-Pilchuck's cafeteria. Fryberg was a member of the school's football team and was named freshman homecoming prince a week ago.
The Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks' Facebook page had this message displayed Friday:
